PRES European University of Brittany

The European University of Brittany, a Centre for Research and Higher Education (PRES), which opened in March 2007, is one of the first wave of centres with official approval from the government.

A public institution for scientific cooperation, it brings together the research entities of Brittany, of which there are 21, including UPMC, due to the location of its Roscoff oceanography station.

With a core remit of research, valorisation and doctoral studies, it has more than 70,000 students, of which 2,700 are pursuing doctorates, providing 13,000 research-development posts in Brittany (researchers, engineers, etc.) and 4.5% of French government-employed researchers..

The UEB (European University of Brittany), which is classified as a centre of excellence, aims to consolidate the status of Brittany as a ‘Region of Knowledge’, within the framework of concerted European endeavours in research and higher education.
