Allowing access to culture, integrating it as an element within education, promoting expression and creativity, raising awareness of the sciences among a wide audience, preserving and promoting the university’s scientific heritage – these are the objectives that UPMC openly sets for itself. This cultural development policy, which is executed by the Cultural Office, is intended to make the university a place of education and open exchange at the crossroads between the artistic and scientific fields and social issues. It is in this context the Cultural Office:
- encourages thought and coordinates prospective working groups
- proposes, together with those involved in the area concerned, objectives and strategic direction, evaluates and raises the funds necessary for their efficiency and durability
- develops an implementation strategy for the policy defined by the university and monitors it.
For the purposes of these activities within the fields of art and the spread of scientific culture, the Cultural Office:
- unites the faculties and departments of the university (research laboratories, collections and museums, libraries, etc.) around cultural events inititated by UPMC or national cultural projects (participation in Springtime of Poets, Heritage Days, coordination of the Science Festival)
- initiates, conceives and implements courses of action both within the university and outside of it. These courses of action can be relative to UPMC itself or integrated within the framework of partnerships and cooperative ventures.
- encourages and implements courses of action that address the demands of the university community and engages the close involvement of the latter
- collaborates with others working in the area concerned in order to create and provide resources on the internet and organise or coordinate events
- is engaged in the preservation and promotion of the scientific heritage of the university and encourages thought in order to eventually make all of these riches valuable in the eyes of the general public
- inititates thought and partnerships for local and long-term cultural development.

Its work is intended for the benefit of all and encourages cross-cooperation between different kinds of disciplines and audiences. In this way, it contributes to the influence of the university by creating the conditions that are favourable to an ambitious and diversified cultural programme, both in the arts and the sciences.
