Shanghai 2017 by Subject

The Shanghai Ranking has just published its 2017 thematic charts, which ranks more than 4,000 universities worldwide in 52 disciplines. Pierre and Marie Curie University is now ranking third in the world in mathematics, just behind the Princeton and New York University.

This exceptional ranking is part of a broader dynamic of the exceptional work in mathematics at French universities, driven by the collective research in the heart of Paris, in which our community is fully involved. UPMC was ranked in the top 50 of the various disciplines 14 times, making it the French institution that appears most frequently in the ranking and almost always in first place in the country’s higher education establishments.

UPMC is also 13th in physics, 16th in human biological sciences, 17th in science and materials engineering, 18th in Earth Sciences, 23th in statistics, 24th in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, 26th in ecology, 35th in biological sciences, 31st in Clinical Medicine, 42nd in Mechanical Engineering, 43rd in Medical Technology, 44th in Instrument Science and Technology and 49th in Chemistry.
