Science and Engineering of Soft Matter - UMR 7615

This laboratory centers on physics, chemistry and engineering of soft matter, relying on truly multidisciplinary skills: systems development, development of original techniques, and the mastering the measurement of properties (especially mechanical). It seeks to develop new concepts, drawing from and responding to the ever-increasing situations encountered in this area (particularly in the industrial setting).

Our laboratory collaborates with numerous companies in various fields - adhesion, wetting, elastomers, crude oil extraction, rheology. More than half of all theses are developed in the context of an industrial contract.

The laboratory registers an average of two patents per year.

Main equipements

This laboratory is the rheology plaform for UPMC.

  • Rheology platform: Schott AVS360 viscometer, shear rheometers (low-shear Contraves LS 30, Carri-med CSR Rheometrics RFS II and DDR II, TA Instruments AR1000 and ARES, Haake RS 600, Anton Paar MCR501) or traction machines (Zwick HC25, Inston 5565, MTS 831 and MTS 810)
  • Solution: size exclusion chromatography, FTIR spectroscopy and fluorescence, capillary electrophoresis, light scattering, microcalorimetry surfaces / interfaces: Zetamètre, ellipsometry, AFM, interfacial tension, profilometer
