Healthy Living and Active Aging: the KIC EIT Health (Innolife) has won the EIT Tender

The Innolife consortium of 144 European companies, research institutes and universities has won EU backing to promote healthy living and active aging.

The group has been selected as a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an independent EU body set up in 2008 to spur innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe to overcome major challenges. With a total EIT budget of EUR 2.7 billion in H2020 for all KICs, these communities bring together leading universities, research labs and companies to form dynamic cross-border partnerships that develop innovative products and services, start new companies, and train a new generation of entrepreneurs.

 

UPMC is a core partner of the InnoLife consortium, which has been designated as a new KIC called EIT Health. This KIC is one of the largest public funded initiatives for health worldwide, as the EIT will invest progressively up to EUR 80 million  to fund new collaborations, education and projects over the initial seven year period. EIT Health has six co-location centers: Barcelona (Spain), Heidelberg (Germany), London (UK/Ireland), Paris (France), Rotterdam (Belgium-Netherlands) and Stockholm (Scandinavia). EIT Health also includes “InnoStars” who are the extended EIT Health partnerships in Croatia, Hungary, Wales, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia.

The consortium for EIT Health brings together European players at the forefront of industry, education, innovation, research, health, medical technology and insurance to rapidly expand market access innovative products to facilitate aging well and autonomy. In addition to UPMC, the initiator of the French section of the community, the major EIT Health French partners include: Air Liquide, Santé International, Becton-Dickinson France SAS (BD), Bull SAS, the Commission for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies (CEA), Institut Mérieux, National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), National Institute for Research in Computing and Automation (INRIA), Sanofi-Aventis R & D and Sanofi-Aventis France, Groupe SEB, Sorin CRM SAS, Université Joseph Fourier (UJF); associated partners: AXA, Danone, Essilor, Grenoble Ecole de Management, Institut Gustave Roussy, Viséo and other partners; Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Cap Digital, INSEAD (INSEAD) Mov'eo, Silver Valley, ST Microelectronics, Bio-Rad, College of Engineering, E-Seniors, Experconnect, Finance Innovation, Lyonbiopole, MADoPA and Living Lab ActivAgeing Medicen, Minalogic and Systematic Paris Region.

 

The EIT Health French division covers a large number of players in the forefront in the field of health and aging, in both private industry and public research and education and located in two regions: Ile-de-France and Rhône-Alpes. This partnership is built on excellence, complementarity and integration. After signing a framework agreement with the EIT, EIT Health will start operations in early 2015.
