Neurosciences specialization

This is a specialization of the master's degree of Integrative Biology and Physiology.

Neuroscience is a vast disciplinary field with major stakes are at play, both at the fundamental level (understanding the brain) and in terms of its multiple applications (for example in the health field). Spectacular progress has been made over the last few years, thanks in particular to the introduction of animal models which are varied phylogenetically, to the development of new mathematical and modeling tools, and to the improvement of brain-machine interfaces. These new approaches, which involve many disciplines of biology, physics, computer science, mathematics, cognitive psychology, etc., have thoroughly transformed the molecular analysis and the study of the most complicated physiological functions of the brain and the nervous system. At the national and international levels, if only because of the economic impact of diseases of the nervous system in health budgets, neuroscience is a strong focus of development.
Two programs are offered for this specialization:
-    Cellular and integrated neuroscience
-    Cognitive and behavioral neuroscience.

Opportunities

After the different courses offered, students can move toward basic or applied research in various fields of neuroscience: by preparing a doctoral thesis to integrate the body of academics from universities or body of a large body of research (CNRS, INSERM, CEA, ...) by inserting in the trades of public and private research, basic or applied. The career "neurobiology and neuropsychology of human behavior" offers opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, health agencies, companies information and communication science, management structures in public health.

1 UE for a 3-month internship in France or abroad (12 ECTS)

Master 2 - Semestre 1 (30 ECTS) - 2 different paths :

- Path for Cellular and integrated Neurosciences

1 compulsory UE (6 ou 12 ECTS) + optional UEs (de 18 à 24 ECTS)

- Path for Cognitive and behavioral Neurosciences

2 compulsory UEs (2x6 ECTS) + optional UEs (18 ECTS)

Master 2 - Semestre 2 (30 ECTS)

1 UE for a 6-month internship in France or abroad

Well-targeted public

The specialization is open to students from various disciplines: biology in the first place but also chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics. M2 integration of students from top engineering schools, doctors and students from another statement from UPMC is also possible. The additional knowledge to be acquired are adjusted according to the origin and course students.

Admissions

A student who holds a degree in biology and medical students who have successfully completed two certificates of mastery. For students from "Grandes Ecoles" (ENS, engineering schools) their qualifications, interest in biology and their level of knowledge in biology are major assets to integrate this specialty. The teaching is organized to enable the integration of students at different levels of expertise.
