UPMC, FOUNDER MEMBER OF THE EURO-MEDITERRANEAN PRES

Established in April 2006, the PRES (Centres for Research and Higher Education) are groupings of institutions created to implement partnerships in research, education, innovation and culture. UPMC is a founder member of the PRES « Euro-Mediterranean University », alongside 5 other institutions: the universities of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, Pascal Paoli in Corsica, Sud Toulon Var (which launched a PRES on November 6 2007), before being joined, in March 2008, by their Italian counterparts in Gênes and Turin.
Within the framework of greater Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, this PRES is the linchpin in vast cross-border research and education projects, in all areas of knowledge, the core topic of which is the environment and sustainable development. With 180,000 students and 12,500 teacher-researchers and researchers, its actions are underpinned by a vast secondary network of institutional partners, both public and private.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE EURO-MEDITERRANEAN CENTRE FOR RESEARCH AND HIGHER EDUCATION (PRES)

The objective was to set up a dynamic founded on cross-border cooperation with Italy, to the east of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, in the heart of the Euroregion (Liguria and Piémont) and beyond. On a cultural level, this grouping has its roots in the intellectual and artistic heritage of the countries concerned: did the former States of the House of Savoy not stretch from the North of the Alps to the Mediterranean? The Euro-Mediterranean PRES partners, who currently meet in a flexible, associative manner, wish to acquire, as swiftly as possible, the innovative legal status of European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (GECT), in order to facilitate the cross-border cooperation of the various entities.
