Department of Chemistry

chemistry

Discovering and inventing new molecules, substances and materials is currently a fundamental issue in chemistry research.

Orientated towards the development of chemistry as a discipline integrating the principle of eco-design and an awareness of environmental parameters, UPMC and its laboratories are committed to the necessity of respecting the environment and this need is a defining factor in their research programmes.

The 16 laboratories dependent on the Chemistry department are grouped into 5 scientific departments: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, materials, Ph.A.R.E.S. (analytical physicochemistry, reactivity, electrochemistry, surfaces), S.Ma.R.T. (structure, matter, radiation, theory).

They are structured in 4 federations centred around molecular chemistry, materials chemistry, physical and theoretical chemistry and analytical physicochemistry.

Chemists also participate in multidisciplinary projects at the physics-chemistry-biology-medicine interface.

The doctoral training in chemistry takes place within 5 doctoral schools.
The ‘annual chemistry day’ takes place every year, providing an opportunity for staff and students of the UFR to relax, meet each other and obtain information in the area of science.
