Living Earth and Environment
One of the major scientific issues of this sector is the scientific challenge of facilitating a transition from the "study of climate change" approach to the "study of global change" approach.
Taking the problematic of climate change and coupling it with the knowledge and the impacts of anthropic alterations (widespread pollution, land use and changes of use, use of resources) necessitates simultaneous consideration of varied disciplinary approaches (resilience, adaptability, responses to stress, physiology, biodiversity erosion, modifications of the functioning of mayor ecobiogeochemical cycles, invasive species, the evolution of the genome, etc.), in which field UPMC has excellent exponents, which must continue to be brought into synergy with physicochemical components and climate modellers. It is this synergetic, multi-disciplinary approach by individuals with the expertise required to allow the replacement of the scientific bases of environmental engineering with new and sustainable systems and the emergence of a new economic and labour market in France (flourishing elsewhere in the US).
