Jean Chambaz Re-elected President of Pierre and Marie Curie University

Jean Chambaz has been re-elected president of Pierre and Marie Curie University (UPMC) by the University's Administrative Board on March 7th, 2016.

As part of the "Reunis" (United) group, he received 21 votes out of 28, and therefore starts his second term with a strongl mandate. Hélène Pelczar, from the group "We are the university" and also a candidate for president of UPMC, received 5 votes. Two blank or spoiled ballots were also counted.


Jean Chambaz's Career

Professor Chambaz has been president of Pierre and Marie Curie University since March 2012, after having served as Vice President of Ways and Means and Vice President for Research. As a Professor of Cell Biology at the Pierre and Marie Curie Faculty of Medicine, he was chief of the Endocrine Biochemistry Department at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital. In 1999, he established a joint Inserm-UPMC research unit in the field of metabolism and intestinal differentiation. This laboratory merged in 2007 with the Cordeliers Research Center, of which he then became Deputy Director. In 2005, he created the Doctoral Education Institute at UPMC, which he directed until 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he was the first president of the Council for Doctoral Education at the European University Association (EUA), and in 2015, Prof. Chambaz was elected to the EUA. Since November 2014, he has also been president of the Coordination of French Research-Intensive Universities (CURIF).
