Digital simulation: toward an alternative tool in the medical sector

Digital simulation

The mathematical modelling of real-life phenomena attempts to identify the main mechanisms that are involved in their happening. This modelling makes it possible in particular to make digital simulations of them with a computer. After reproducing the phenomenon, the idea is then to try to act in such a way as to improve its behaviour.

The medical sector has for several years been participating in collaborations with mathematicians, particularly in the Jacques-Louis Lions laboratory of Pierre and Marie Curie University or in association with the National Institute for Research in Computer Science (INRIA). Research is being developed related to the modelling of organs such as the heart and blood circulation system as well as the respiratory system.

Cooperation between research clusters will be put into place. In this regard, work at the crossroads between mathematics and physics, mathematics and chemistry, computer science and biology and mechanics and health is a perfect illustration of the importance of the modelling of living things for a better understanding of life and the improvement if its conditions.
