ICT in Education

Teaching with IT

Information and communication technologies (ICT) in education provide students and teaching staff with the tools, resources and digital services essential for teaching today.

The ICT policy is defined and carried out by the SGTICE (ICT department) which is made up of 4 sections: L'UTĔS, FOÀD, the Multimedia Production Center (in French, CPM) and TICE Méd.

  • Virtually all courses have online documents, many of which are referenced in the course database Savoir en Ligne
  • Each teaching department has its own website where students can find all relevant information. Certain teaching departments also have websites for exchanges between students and teaching staff (see below).
  • Nearly a third of all students have access to a collaborative course space: the Sakai teaching platform, directly accessible from monUPMC . These spaces are opened on request from the lecturer. Not only are course documents available, it is also possible to work (tests, quizzes, etc.) and to communicate (forums, chats, email) on line. Soon it will even be possible to dialog directly by videoconference from home!
  • Video, streaming, podcasts and vodcasts are used more and more frequently at UPMC; most undergraduate courses are available online. Non-copyrighted videos (classes, conferences, etc) are also available on iTunes U or by streaming from the CPM website.
  • L'UTES  provides students and teaching staff with access to computers and educational software. Its team of teachers contributes its support and skills in the usage of these technologies for teaching.

Overall, ICT in their various incarnations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, are an integral part of teaching at UPMC.
