EBE specialization(Ecology, Biodiversity, Evolution)

The aim of the specialization "biodiversity, ecology and evolution" is to provide training on the dynamics of biodiversity and ecological systems based on high level research in the field. This is to give students a thorough characterization of the major principles of organization and classification of living organisms, the mechanisms of emergence, maintenance and evolution of biodiversity on the structure and functioning of communities and ecosystems. The skills acquired will enable students to move towards scientific research or to areas of a company involved in environment management and sustainable use of biological resources.

  • Acquisition of a cultural knowledge enabling a multidisciplinary approach of the Environment. This baggage includes tools and a coherent set of specialized knowledge about Earth system processes which is the seat and how human societies have changed and continue to change. It leads to an ability to analyze and model complex situations by implementing appropriate tools
  • Ability to search for information
  • Ability to implement a project team
  • Ability to communicate findings in French and in English

ecology, environment, biodiversity, evolution, systematics, paleontology, organisms biology, fauna, flora, taxonomy, phylogeny, bio-informatics

This course is for future scientists, engineers and other professionals concerned with the diversity of life and backgrounds by providing a solid theoretical, methodological and practical science of ecology and evolution allowing the use with relevance and critical thinking of all the concepts and methods that sustain today's science of biodiversity, ecology and evolution.

During the first semester (S1) students access to common UE relating to the following subjects: major environmental issues, data analysis, English, and to fundamental UE and specialization according to their objectives and the route chosen by the student. During S2, there are common UE rules (data analysis), the specialization UE depending on the chosen course, an open UE (free choice for the student in consultation with teachers) and a period of orientation. In S3, all proposed UE are specialization, with the exception of an openness UE. Finally, the S4 includes a 6-month internship in a laboratory or a company depending on the declination "research" or "professional" of the student's progress.

Well-targeted public

The specialization welcomes students who previously obtained a bachelor of science and technology in biology. Any request from another curriculum may be considered by the teaching team. The specialization prepares to the doctoral school in Life diversity of UPMC or equivalent, and for careers in conservation and management of nature, species or environments.

The skills required are those usually recognized in the licenses of Science and Technology in Biology for access to first year master's or master's degrees in biology for second year. Any request from another student curriculum will be reviewed by the teaching team.
