Master of Mathematics and Applications (M1)

This major is an advanced course in pure or applied mathematics, which leads directly to various professions in research or industrial. The M1 is also a necessary step towards the agrégation (civil service competitive examination for higher education teaching staff).

The major covers the essentials of the mathematics field, with a wide choice of papers in M1 and an in-depth specialization in M2 chosen from the 6 options offered.
Pure mathematics is strongly represented, but there is also a choice of specializations in applied mathematics: statistics, probabilities, numerical analysis, game theory, mathematics-biology, mathematics-computer science and engineering. These specializations accept a large number of students.

Understanding and mastery of advanced mathematics tools and methods.

Applied mathematics, statistics, probabilities, numerical analysis, game theory, engineering

 Further study:

  • Doctorate : research and/or lecturing career
  • Civil service competitive examinations for higher education: CAPES, agrégation
  • The M1 qualifies for admission to engineering grandes écoles

Career prospects:

  • Management level positions in the private sector.
  • Various engineering professions
  • Civil service competitive examinations

Level 1: 4 papers of 12 ECTS, 1 orientation paper of 6 ECTS and 1 language paper 6 ECTS, chosen from a list of papers according to the specialization envisaged in M2.

Level 2: The second year is organized into specializations (some specializations being further divided into programs) and includes the equivalent of one semester of theoretical classes and one semester of internship in a company or laboratory.

Admission to a specialization and/or program depends on the students level, educational history and the number of places available.

It is possible to undertake the M1 and a part of the M2 through distance education.
6 specializations are offered in M2:

Well-targeted public

Students with a solid bachelor’s level education in mathematics. Students from engineering schools with a sufficient level in mathematics, and students with an M1 from another university, may enter directly into M2.

Enrolment applications for Master’s degrees can be made from mid-April to June.
