Network Industries and the Digital Economy Specialization (M2)

The “Network Industries and the Digital Economy” specialization (“IREN” in French) is a benchmark course in economics and management in the areas of innovation, the digital economy and network industries. The course is the fruit of a partnership between universities in the Ile-de-France region (Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris Ouest-Nanterre La Défense and Paris Sud 11) and Grandes Ecoles (Ecole Polytechnique, Supélec and Télécom Paris Tech).

The objective is to equip highly-trained students to master the operating principles of network industries and the digital economy, enabling them to move into either higher education and research or operational positions in the corporate sector, regulatory institutions, the authorities and consumer and user groups.

Teaching runs from 15 September to the end of March. It includes an initial intensive series of basic seminars (15 September to 15 January). Students must choose six basic seminars as well as taking two method seminars (econometrics and research methodology). They can then choose from among four specialization programs: Digital Economy, Innovation, Network Industries and Market Design. Within each of these programs, students opt for either a research or a vocational focus. The seminars making up this second part run from 15 January to 30 March.

Classes are held at rue Gay Lussac in Paris’s fifth arrondissement on Thursday afternoons, Fridays and Saturday mornings.
From 30 March onwards, students undertake either a vocational or a research placement.
