Biology and physiology of organisms specialization

This is a specialization of the master's degree of Integrative Biology and Physiology.

This course, which covers both plant and animal biology, uses an integrated approach incorporating classic aspects of the biology and physiology of organisms with recent approaches linking genomics and post-genomics (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.). These approaches also link evolutive and environmental aspects in the compared biology of eukaryote lineages.
Firstly, the specialization covers the main components of the biology of the organism: functional architecture, integrated physiology and relations to the biotic and abiotic environment, and the dynamics and evolution of development. This first part of the course gives students the most up to date general skills in integrative biology, both theoretical and technical.
Students may then specialize in integrated plant biology, integrated biology of organisms or marine biology. These specializations, which use an extensive network of laboratories, technical centers and companies, qualify researchers in various fields of biology and biotechnology, as well as for animal and plant production.

The specialization aims to develop:

1 - for careers in basic research or industrial fields as diverse as marine or terrestrial physiology, plant biology, animal and plant biotechnology, aquaculture, evolutionary biology, disciplines for which integrated and multiple approaches have now become a necessity if not an imperative.

2 - the supervisory functions or decisions in connection with local authorities, consulting firms, industries and in various areas: environment, agribusiness, biotechnology, quality, marketing.

Master 2 - Semestre 2 (30 ECTS)

Well-targeted public

Any student who graduated in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, interested in these approaches. Students of veterinary schools or agricultural institutes may join the training, which may also attract physicians to its comparative aspects or applied.


The entry is open to students of the sciences and technics license degree in Life Sciences at UPMC. We consider their results and the adequacy of their training with the reference master. It can be opened to students in M1, license in Chemistry depending on their studies. Some courses may also be open to physics students in S3 who have validated the EU S2 "biology for non-biologists" The mention is also open to students who require a medical program especially M1, graduate students or doctors from other universities and Grandes Ecoles for students based on skills acquired in the areas of reference.
